Bachata is one of the most newly-developed dance styles in the Latin dance family. Although the slow dance will evolve as it is experienced and influenced by different dancers, the dance is currently known for it’s sexiness most emphasized through the ribcage and hips of the dancers and it’s clever footwork rhythms. Bachata is a spot dance and can be done in a friendly and open manner or in a more intimate embrace.
Cha Cha (Rhythm)- Cha Cha is a fun and fast-paced Latin dance, also characterized by Cuban motion technique and spot dance floor-crafting (the dance has no line of travel). Originally called the “triple mambo,” the dance is close in presentation to Salsa and Mambo, two other well-renowned dances.
Country Medley umbrellas many different forms of partnership dance, as well as non-partnership dances in the line dancing genre. Our country medley classes will introduce you to dances such as a fast-paced Country Two-Step, a slow romantic Country Waltz, an upbeat Country Swing, and some fun partnership and non-partnership line dances.
This is a very special folk dance that takes on many different faces because so many different Latin ethnicities dance it and influence it in their own personal way. It holds many of the same characteristics of Salsa and Bachata with its consistent hip motion and playful bouncy nature.
East Coast Swing
East Coast Swing (Rhythm): East Coast Swing is another one of those dances that will allow you to enjoy all kinds of wonderful upbeat music. East Coast Swing is characterized by it’s three possibilities of timing: single-time (also referred to as Jitterbug), double-time, and triple-time swing. It’s buoyant and high-energy moves will allow you to go anywhere to have a good time.
Foxtrot (Smooth/American)- Foxtrot is a classy dance that travels counter-clockwise around the outer edge of the dance floor. You can have fun using your Foxtrot moves to the sounds of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, or Michael Buble. The dance is best characterized by it’s long elegant strides and playful bobbing nature.
Nightclub Two Step
Nightclub Two-Step (Rhythm): Nightclub Two-Step is one of the most current additions to partnership dance. It has a look that seems as though someone took the “high school slow dance” and developed it into something more. It can be danced to a lot of popular soft rock music and is a great and versatile dance to know.
Rumba (Rhythm)- Rumba is a very useful Latin dance that can be enjoyed to slow rhythmic Latin dance music or current music that holds a similar tempo and time signature. Rumba is a spot dance and has no specific line of travel. The characteristics of the dance include an important technique called “Cuban motion” which creates dimension within a dancer’s movements by emphasizing a rotation with the hips.
Salsa (Latin)- Salsa is a must-know dance that is currently heating up the social dance floors all over the world. Salsa is what is known as a “slot dance” which means that the dancers must stick to a hallway type space while the dance is done (this is an important etiquette, but not required). The dance is best characterized by it’s rapid pace, fancy turning patterns, and consistent hip motion.
Tango (American Smooth/Latin)- Tango is a dance that has beautifully evolved over several decades. The original style, Argentine Tango, is traditionally danced in a close embrace and can change faces with lengthier steps or shorter staccato type movements. When dancing American-style Tango the dance travels counter-clockwise around the outer rim of the dance floor and rather than using a close and intimate embrace the dance uses a much grander presentation similar to Waltz and Foxtrot.
Waltz (Smooth/American)- Waltz is a smooth and progressive dance that travels counter-clockwise around the outer edge of the dance floor. It is used to express rhythms in several different genres of music. The dance is best characterized by it’s long elegant strides and undulating motion created by it’s main technique, “rise and fall.”
